Fuel at return
How full the tank has to be, how a refuelling charge is worked out and how to query one.
Full. You collect the car with a full tank and hand it back with a full tank. If it is not full, we refuel it and charge you for the missing fuel plus a refuelling service fee. If you took prepaid fuel, there is nothing to do — return it at any level.
Full-to-full
- Fill up shortly before the handover, so the gauge reads full when we check it
- Any petrol station near your return location is fine — you choose where
- Keep the receipt until your deposit has been released
Prepaid fuel
- Return the car at any fuel level, with no refuelling charge
- There is no refund for fuel you did not use, so it pays off when you expect to return the car low
Tip: if the tank was not completely full when you collected the car, you only have to bring it back to the level written on your rental agreement.
Next step
Add prepaid fuel to your booking under "Manage bookings" on the ETERNAL website.
If the car comes back below the level it left at, we work out how many litres are missing and charge for them at the price per litre in your rental agreement, plus a refuelling service fee for doing it for you.
How the level is recorded
Our agent normally reads the gauge with you at handover and records the level. If a reading or evidence must be reviewed later, any charge must still be documented under the signed agreement and you may ask for the supporting record.
When you pay it
When the amount is known at handover, it can be settled and receipted then. If supporting evidence is reviewed later, ETERNAL documents the charge under the signed agreement and provides the applicable billing record; contact us if you want to dispute it.
How to avoid it
- Fill up shortly before the handover rather than earlier in the day
- Keep the fuel receipt — it shows where and when you filled up
- Or take prepaid fuel when you book and stop thinking about it

Say so at the handover, while our agent is still with you and the gauge is there to look at. Almost every fuel disagreement is settled on the spot in a minute, because both of you are standing in front of the same car.
If you only notice afterwards
Get in touch by phone, WhatsApp, email or chat with your reservation number. Send whatever you have and we will go through it with you.
