Damage claims
What each protection plan covers, what you would pay towards damage, and what is never covered.
A protection plan limits what you pay if the rental car is damaged or stolen. Without one, you can be held responsible for the cost of repairing the car, up to its full value.
Included in every rental, whichever plan you take
- Third-party liability insurance required by law — covers injury or damage you cause to other people and their property
- 24/7 ETERNAL roadside assistance
- All applicable taxes
The four plans
| Plan | You pay towards damage | Deposit |
|---|---|---|
| No Extra Protection | Up to the full value of the car | €500 |
| Basic Protection | Up to €503.58 per incident | €200 |
| Eternal Protection | Nothing, for what it covers | €200 |
| Full Protection | Nothing, for what it covers | €200 |
What each plan covers
- No Extra Protection — nothing beyond the legally required third-party insurance
- Basic Protection — Collision & Theft Protection
- Eternal Protection — Collision & Theft, plus Windscreen, Glass & Lights, plus Tyres
- Full Protection — all of the above, plus Underbody Protection and Interior Protection
The part people miss: covered matters more than the deductible
A plan with no deductible means you pay nothing towards the damage types it covers. It does not mean you pay nothing for damage it does not cover.
With Eternal Protection, for example, damage to the underbody or the interior is not covered at all, so you would pay for that in full. Only Full Protection closes that gap.
Never covered, by any plan
"Other costs" are excluded from every plan, Full Protection included, and always remain your responsibility:
- Cleaning charges
- Lost or damaged personal possessions
- Expenses related to flight or accommodation bookings
- Fuel and late-return charges
- Traffic fines and their administration fees
- Loss of vehicle documents or keys
- Towing and recovery caused by a breach of the rental agreement
Protection also falls away entirely if
- The damage was caused intentionally or through gross negligence
- The driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs
- The car was driven by someone not listed on the rental agreement
- The car was driven off-road
- The car was taken to a country we did not approve in writing
- False information was given when booking or collecting the car
Note: the zero liability of Full Protection applies to damage to and theft of the rental car. It is not a promise that you never pay anything — the costs listed above stay yours.
Next step
Your plan and what you would pay towards damage are stated on your rental agreement. You can change your plan before pick-up under "Manage bookings" on the ETERNAL website.
