Payment methods and deposits
Accepted payment methods, deposit handling and when payments are collected.
At pick-up, a credit-card deposit is generally reserved; a debit-card deposit may be reserved or charged, depending on the card and payment provider. The exact amount is stated in your booking and rental agreement.
Influencing factors
- Protection plan category – depending on the protection plan you selected, it influences how much the deposit is.
Note: The deposit is card security, separate from the deductible and not a cap on liability. Amounts due under the signed agreement—including documented damage where applicable—may be settled from it; after assessment, the unused balance is released or refunded.
Deposit amount by protection plan
The deposit is a fixed amount, separate from and additional to the rental price. It depends only on the protection plan you choose:
| Protection plan | Deposit |
|---|---|
| No extra protection | €500 |
| Basic Protection | €200 |
| Eternal Protection | €200 |
| Full Protection | €200 |
This is the deposit and has nothing to do with the excess amount. The exact figure for your booking is shown in the price summary before you confirm, and again in your confirmation email.
When the authorization is placed and released
- The deposit is separate from the rental charge and the protection-plan deductible.
- It is placed on a physical card in the main driver’s name at pick-up.
- After return and assessment, ETERNAL releases or refunds the unused balance. Banks commonly take 5–10 business days to make it available.
Next step
The deposit for your booking is shown in the price summary at checkout and in your confirmation email.
A credit-card deposit is generally held against the available card limit. A debit-card deposit may be charged and later refunded, depending on the card and payment provider. In both cases, the deposit amount depends only on the selected protection plan.
Credit card
- The deposit is generally reserved against your available card limit rather than taken as a completed purchase
- After return and assessment, ETERNAL releases the unused amount
- Your bank commonly takes 5–10 business days to show the funds as available
Debit card
- The deposit may be charged or reserved, depending on the card and payment provider
- After return and assessment, ETERNAL refunds or releases the unused amount
- Your bank commonly takes 5–10 business days to complete availability or settlement
What the authorization covers
- Potential additional costs arising from the rental agreement — such as missing fuel on return, late return or chargeable extras
- The exact amount is shown in your price summary, confirmation and rental agreement
Next step
Check the deposit amount for your upcoming booking in its price summary or confirmation email.
The payment options available for your reservation are shown before confirmation and can include payment at pick-up or an online method. Regardless of how the rental is paid, the refundable security deposit requires a physical credit or debit card in the main driver's name at pick-up.
Prepaid and virtual cards
- Prepaid, gift and virtual cards cannot be used for the security deposit
- Apple Pay, Google Pay and other digital wallets cannot replace the physical card required for the deposit
Note: The rental itself may be paid in cash, but the security deposit may not — a card is always required for that.
The payment methods available for your reservation are shown before confirmation. Where payment at pick-up is offered, you may pay the rental in cash or by an accepted credit or debit card. The separate security deposit always requires a physical card in the main driver’s name.
No. The refundable security deposit must be placed with a credit or debit card. Cash is not accepted for the deposit, even when you pay the vehicle rental in cash.

- Cards not in the main driver's name
Before pick-up
Check your card: make sure the physical card is active, has sufficient available funds or limit for the deposit, and can be used at a card terminal in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Card acceptance: if you are unsure about the card type or network, contact ETERNAL before arrival rather than relying on a digital or prepaid substitute.
Always check the booking page for your selected vehicle for exact eligibility.
